Since your goal for a creative marriage proposal is to treat her to the best day of her life. One great way to make her feel like a million bucks is to give her a complete spa day. I personally think this proposal idea can be a part of a lager proposal day, but if done right, it can be done all by itself. This proposal idea is not going to be super cheap, but certainly not the most expensive either.
The first thing you want to think about is how far you want to take her spa day marriage proposal. You can simply send her to your local day spa and have her pampered with hair, nails, massage, etc and then take her out for a nice dinner, where you could propose in any number of ways (ring in the cake, table side with champagne, etc). Or you could go all out and propose in grand style at a stay spa or other similar getaway type place. Since you know I am all about the grand gesture, we will start off with that, but I’ll also talk about some more simple ways a little later as well.
We all obviously live in different parts of the country, so our options are going to be different. For the purpose of this post, I am going to focus on someplace relatively local for me that I would plan my spa day proposal if this was the way I was going to do it. I live in Kentucky, and just across the river in Indiana there is a fabulous resort called French Lick. Just the name alone sounds like a place any guy would want to go visit. But there is so much more to it than just having an awesome name.
The French Lick Resort sits comfortably on the edge of the Hoosier National Forest and has all the great features and amenities of some of the most well known getaway places in the US. There is hiking, biking, and a whole host of other outdoor activities. Golf is nearly everywhere you look, with several courses on the grounds you will have no shortage of tee times if that is your thing. The courses are pristine and host PGA tournaments; most notably the Senior PGA tournament this year (2015).
There are many different kinds of other activities you can choose to do while you are there. Tennis, basketball, swimming, bowling, and horseback riding are just a few of the options you have to choose from. And something that is very near and dear to my heart…food. The resort has 13 restaurants on it with all the fine dining you can possibly desire. For a very intimate experience, there is also room service for you to enjoy.
If you want to use her friends for your spa day proposal, then this is a great way to do it. You can reach out to her best friend and tell her what you would like to do. She can invite her to go with her on a day trip to the spa because she has a Groupon for a buy one get one free treatment and wants to share it with her. That way you can do all the paying and she will be none the wiser. Obviously you will want to also pay for the services her friend gets as a courtesy for her helping you. You can either get a Visa gift card with plenty to cover anything they want, or you can leave your card with the spa so they can charge it.
I would leave the day pretty much up to them to do what they want. They can get manicures, pedicures, facials, etc. The spa will provide them with wine and take very good care of them. After they have been pampered sufficiently, they can go out to a nice dinner or possibly even spend some time at the casino. Once they have played some slots or blackjack, you can have one of the casino employees tell them they have earned a comped room for the night. This part is tricky because your lady will have to be a spur of the moment type of person to take this opportunity. If she isn’t, then you will have to do some pre planning and find a way for her to have a bag packed. This should be pretty easy though. You can have her friend tell her they need a change of clothes and some make up in case they need it after their spa treatments. If they are not going to go to the casino, you can have the waiter bring a “free night coupon” back with the check. He/she can tell them that they are the lucky winners of a free night stay that night.
Since that is covered and now they are standing at the door to the hotel room, it is your turn. While they are gambling or eating, you should be up in the room getting it ready for the proposal. You can decorate it with a billion rose petals, candles, and all the other things that chicks dig. You can make a gigantic heart in the center of the room with you in the middle of it on one knee. You can spell out “Will you marry me” in rose petals on the bed. There are many options you can choose from. Make it as personal and memorable as possible. Her friend should let her open the door and go in before her. As your lady steps in the room, your friend should close the door behind her while staying outside. You can propose and then let the friend in for a few minutes to celebrate with the two of you. Then send her on her way so you can celebrate…if you know what I mean.
You can choose to pay for a room for her friend to stay in, or if it is not too far, you can have her just go home from there. These are all details you can work out as you plan. So much of this will depend on your location, the spa, etc.
Just remember my golden rule about having helpers. Make 100% sure they can be trusted not to tell anyone and also not to spill the beans on social media before you guys get to personally tell your family and close friends.
Almost every town in the U.S. has a hair and nail place of some sort. If your thought is simply to start your creative proposal idea off by pampering her, then you can simply arrange for her to get her hair and nails done. She can do it alone or with a friend. Using a friend is usually an easy cover for you, plus she will be able to have someone to talk to. Since most chicks hate going to the bathroom alone, using a friend here is a safe bet.
While she is at the nail place, you can be preparing your house, picnic, etc for the big proposal. This is where combining the spa day with your proposal really shines. You can plug in all kinds of great activities for her to have the best day of her life. Many of them won’t cost you too much either.
You can do:
spa – dinner – movie trailer
Breakfast – spa – scavenger hunt
Spa – flash mob at spa
Spa – picnic
Or any number of other combinations of proposals.
